RED

These wines are produced from indigenous grape varieties, such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz (Aragonez), Tinta Barroca, and Tinto Cão. The majority of the wines come from a blend of several grape varieties, with a unique complexity and richness that gives them a characteristic Douro profile. We also offer fantastic examples of monovarietal wines, produced with only one grape variety, mainly from the first three varieties listed.

Red wines to be drunk young: Most have a ruby colour and aromas of red fruits such as raspberries and strawberries, which can be complemented by floral and woody notes. They have medium body and balanced astringency. To appreciate Young Douro wines in all their splendour, they should be drunk in the first few years after the harvest. Among these wines are the reds, most suitable to accompany pizzas, pastas, codfish, or light meat dishes. Serve between 13º and 15ºC.

Storage Reds: They have good depth of colour and complex and intense aromas. When young, it is common for them to possess notes of black fruits, chocolate, balsamic, violet and wood, they have great structure and persistent tannins. At their peak, which can take almost a decade to reach, they display delicate and subtle but highly complex aromas. On the Palate, the wine softens but remains balanced. A significant part of the Douro's wines produced for storage has the designation Reserva or Grande Reserva on its label.
